Pure "D" ole Meaness

Don't know why I am quoting my grandmother more these days...maybe because I am starting to see things as she did many years ago. Sometimes age and maturity do that to a person. And, when someone said or did something out of pure spite, meaness, evilness or what have you, my Mamaw would say something to the effect of, 'that person said that out of "Pure D ole Meaness." Never knew what she was referring to regarding the "D", but got the idea just the same.

I read in the news the other day where Ann Coulter, famed Republican known for her vile called Senator John Edwards a "fag". Why must she say and do things to be so unlikeable and even dare I say, hateable? I have to say it does seem to come to her very easily. And, she knows how to grab a headline.

Think about it, "9-11 Widows are enjoying their husbands' deaths"? It got her name in the papers and her book a few more buyers. So what is she selling now? God only knows, but I'm not buying. In a day and age where journalists are suppposed to be practicing ethics and exercise their free speech carefully, Ann Coulter does neither.

I don't think she has an ethical bone in her body. But, I did find at least one thing she has.
Hatred. That and Pure "D" ole Meaness.

Thank you for writing about Ms. Coulter and her potty mouth.

"What goes around, comes around."

I know only too well the pain a widow suffers every day for the rest of her life and I wouldn't wish it on a cockroach. Or Ms. Coulter.

I am always astounded at what an individual will do to sell a book. Sheesh. Makes you wonder.

Coulter disgusts me on about five trillion levels, but she's really less offensive than the fact she has an audience of fans.

It's one thing to have a crass, mean-spirited and ultimately wrong person running around shooting off his or her mouth.

It's more disturbing when that person manages to turn vitriol into bestsellers.

I have mixed feelings about her ilk. In some ways I feel that those of us who recognize just how nasty that sort of thing is have an obligation to point it out and critique it.

At the same time, I hate bringing attention to folks like Coulter. They feed off the reaction and controversy.

Obviously, though, I have a hard time just ignoring them...

Good post. It's nice to see people talking about the civility of our political discourse instead of turning the matter into a question of competing political perspectives.

Taryn,

Coulter is just plain sad.

Disgusting, but sad, too.
