How Come?

I have wondered about certain "rules" if you will, that we all "should" abide by. But, I've never understood why. So, I thought I would share my list of "How Come's?"

HOW COME-

  • A handtowel in a bathroom is for looks only and shouldn't be used after washing your hands?

  • You shouldn't wear white shoes after Labor Day?

  • You shouldn't put a small fridge in the living room if you want to?

  • Women still have to wear bras?

  • We shouldn't wear pj's during the day?

  • Women eyeball what and how much other women are eating when they are out in public?

  • Women won't wear bathing suits cause they're "too fat", does that stop you from wearing clothes too?

  • Alot of lesbians are masculine looking?

  • Some people are against gay marriage?

  • People jump to conclusions?

  • Tele-evangelists are rich?

  • Most people don't want to think for themselves?

  • Toilet paper rolls should be put on the holder thingy?

  • When you go house hunting and see a home with lots of windows, you cringe at the thought of the time it will take to clean them?

  • Women wear low cut blouses and get mad when men stare at their chest?

  • If women wear low cut blouses, men don't wear low cut pants?

  • Women wear high heels when they are so uncomfortable?

  • God perfected life when he made animals? Do we deserve them?

  • The true concept of God is too enormous for humans to wrap their minds around

  • All the dishes in a dishwasher should be washed before they go through a cycle? Isn't that the point of having a dishwasher?

  • The Conservatives believe in the death penalty but are against abortion?

Just asking, that's all.

The Uncanniness of Theosophy

I've always considered myself a Theosophist rather than Christian or a subset of religion such as Methodist, Baptist etc. For those who wonder what the heck a "Theosophist" is, it is one who embraces all religions and feel that each has a truth. It's always made more sense to me.

It's funny, I've been on this earth 46 years and counting and it just dawned on me for some reason. I asked Alan Solomon, my co-writer what my name would look like in Chinese and what it meant. I always wonder about that. Hey, Kevin Costner wanted to know what his name was in Native American tongue, didn't he?

Well, it made me think back to my mother telling me the story of how she knew she was going to become pregnant with me. She hadn't even been pronounced pregnant yet by her doctor! She had been praying for a child for a long time and during her prayers, she said she heard a voice that shook her to the soul. "Thou shalt have a Deborah."

At that time, (early 60's) she had never heard of a woman called Deborah in the Bible. Her and my grandmother scoured the Bible and finally found a mention of her. Actually, I found a great site that gives more info about her. Here is a snippet:

The popular prophet Deborah is one of the few female role models in the Tanakh, where she exemplifies a Hebrew woman possessed of respect, authority, leadership and decisiveness. To some of the rabbis such strong character in a woman was very threatening. Rabbi Nahman, in his dislike of "strong women" twists the true translation of her name from "bee "to "wasp" (Genesis Rabbah 18:1).

This resistance to women in an active role by male commentators is one factor that makes it difficult to uncover the true memory and significance of the first biblical Deborah. Let us proceed to examine this first, decidedly overshadowed, Deborah.

And Dvorah, the nurse of Rivka died, and she was buried below Beth-el- underneath the oak, and he called the name of it the Oak of Crying. (Genesis 35:8) Here is the webpage for more info: The First Deborah

Here is what is interesting; the Chinese version of my name and meaning is similar to the Bible's meaning of "Deborah". See below for the actual Chinese spelling and explanation from Alan Solomon:

My New Name: 辛 丽军
I had wondered about the Chinese writing that appeared next to Alan's name one day and I asked him, "Hey, what would my name look like?

What does 'Taryn' mean in Chinese?"Ask and you shall recieve as I always say. For some reason, I can't post the Chinese writing into this post, but at least it is showing in the title.

Xin is my surname and LiJun is my first name. Taryn is seen here as being a young pretty soldier, so your first name is LiJun which means beautiful army .... Xin is the nearest meaning to Simpson.

Don't even get me started about numerology, black holes, dimensions and the like.
God, there is so much we don't know...

Get Ready, This is the MOTHER of ALL Rants

Ann Coulter. It's enough to make me shudder with disgust just at the mention of her name. I sincerely wonder if the woman has any responsibility or brains in her head.

Don't get me wrong, she is a master at marketing herself and the Moral Majority's agenda by submerging herself into a vitriolic diatribe against liberals. For some reason, she has a burr in her bonnet with regard to Senator John Edwards.

The very idea that an author and commentator on television and radio can feel free to attack the parents who lost their first born son in a tragic accident, laugh at a woman battling cancer that is asking her to stop the attacks and discuss the issues at hand AND for God's sakes...calling Edwards a FAGGOT.

The interesting thing is that I watched Coulter carefully when Mrs. Edwards called her while she was on Chris Mathews' Hardball program. She laughed arrogantly and was slightly caught off guard on how to handle this request. Suddenly a voice in the background shouts, "Why didn't Senator Edwards call instead?". Her response? "Yeah, why didn't Senator Edwards call?" Is this the type of intelligent debating she is capable of ?

Could it be that Ann Coulter is all mouth and no substance? I am not so troubled by Coulter as I am the people that follow her. To all those who refuse to think for themselves and insist on jumping on the bandwagon of "Rush is Right, G Gordon Liddy, and Pat Robertsons".

Think about it, the intellectually lazy follows a pill popper, a convicted felon, and a radical religious zealot who is obviously not too tightly wrapped.

Unforunately, Coulter won't shut her mouth until the microphones, cameras and interviews cease. So, I believe that we are in for alot more of Ann Coulter.

Incidentally, the Moral Majority is NEITHER.
